Newly emerging artist, one of the 3 top hitters in the Nigerian music arena in 2016, singer , Mr Eazi would be hoping what happened to him on Wednesday is not an indication of what 2017 holds for him.
He was attacked on twitter over an argument between Nigeria and Ghana citizens. Twitter users would be familiar with the unending rivalry the two countries on matters like music, football, who are fluent in English Language, governance and movies to even who cooks jollof rice better.
So it was really surprising and totally unacceptable when Mr. Eazi, a Nigerian singer based in Ghana signed in to Wizkid owned Starboy Record, posted on twitter saying that "Ghana's influence on Nigerian music cannot be overemphasized".
Infuriated and disappointed Nigerians felt betrayed and saw him as an enemy as Nigerian Twitter exploded early Thursday, with posts showing that they are very angry with him.
Ghana influence on present day "Naija Sound" cannot be over emphasized!!! Was all he wrote before Nigerians descended on him with different tweets, emojis and memes.
Weighing in on the matter, Davin (@GottiLavida) said:
"Mr Eazi obviously doesn't know his country men, he has been dis-virgined now!"
On his own, Success Adams (@12SAdams) wrote:
" Ghana is calling Mr Eazi like 'oh my home my home my home' Mr Eazi is you a Ghanaian?"
Somehow feeling pity for the singer, Poximus Prime (@tonypox) wrote:
" Mr. Eazi went to awaken Naija-Ghana bants. And it is not even about jollof"
while Andy Obuoforibo (@andyRoidO) referred the singer winning of Headies 2016 Next Rated category which comes with a car thus: "Mr Eazi is on his way back to Ghana in his Next Rated car. He just arrived pram-pram".
So hot for the clapdown when a popular figure like Dj Spinall whose 2016 hit song with Mr Eazi tittled 'Ohema' had mean words for the singer. "A fuck boy's true color will always show off sooner or later", he wrote.
And even Ghanaian actress, model and singer Juliet Ibrahim was not spared when she tried to back Mr Eazi.
While the firestorm lasted, the actress tweeted her argument that Nigerian songs are inspired by Ghana's Azonto, alkaida and highlife.
Some Naija soundz is azonto inspired, alkaida inspired, hi-life inspired even if u hear " mad over u" u go tink as a Ghanaian singing @mreazi, she wrote through her @julietibrahim Twitter handle among others.
Then Nigerians hitout at her as well. One of the first to launch an attack, @dhighsea wrote: Nigerians4 breakfast: Gimme mr eazi #200, zagadat #50, out Small Juliet ibrahim dodontop......... Madam u get L water??"
Tobi @iam_Doctee wrote: "Aunty Juliet ibrahim. ur husband is waiting for u to make him breakfast...... dont let us slap dah foundation out of u over mr eazi."
